Guide

Set up your domain name

Your AI finds an available name, tells you the price and handles the rest once you agree. Already have a domain? Bring it along or leave it where it is.

Connecting a domain

Click to move the plug

Lamp on: step doneDot: one check, every five minutes On the left are your old nameservers, on the right those of Spaicely. Before the plug moves, Spaicely reads the records that are already there and takes them along, so your email keeps working. Then the nameservers point to Spaicely. The registry of your extension handles that, and how long it takes differs per extension, from a few minutes to sometimes a day. On the first day we check every five minutes, after that every hour. Once it is right, the certificate follows and your site runs on https, with www sent on to the bare domain. The figure runs fast: each mark on the clock is five minutes, and the number of checks is an example.

How it works

A domain is always in the owner's name, even if a web designer arranges it for you. Your AI registers nothing without your agreement: a purchase needs a confirmation, and you pay yourself.

DNS is your domain's address book. If you host with us, you use our DNS, and Spaicely takes care of that. If there are settings already, for your email for instance, Spaicely copies them and your AI shows you what comes along.

We take care of the certificate for https, including its renewal.

Examples

What you can say

Take what fits, swap in your own names and send it to your AI.

Find a name

You say:

Come up with ten domain names for a bakery in Portland, short and easy to say. Check which ones are available, ideally .com, and tell me the prices.

What happens next

Your AI comes up with names and checks them. For each name you hear whether it's available and what it costs. Searching works without an account too.

Register

You say:

Register harpersbakery.com in the name of Harper's Bakery and connect it to my site.

What happens next

Your AI first shows the name, the holder and the price and asks for your agreement. You then get a payment link. Once the payment has gone through, the domain is registered and connected.

Transfer a domain

You say:

Move harpersbakery.com to Spaicely. It's with another provider at the moment.

What happens next

Your AI checks whether it can be done and gives you a link. There you enter the transfer code you get from your current provider; that code doesn't belong in the conversation. The domain's settings come along, so your email keeps working.

Keep a domain where it is

You say:

My domain is staying with my current provider. Connect it to my site and tell me what I need to change there.

What happens next

Your AI shows what comes along and gives you two nameservers. You set those at your provider. We check every five minutes and email you when everything works.

Add something to the DNS

You say:

Add the TXT record Google Search Console is asking for: [paste the code].

What happens next

Your AI adds the record. Other settings stay as they are, and what your site needs is protected.

Automatic renewal

You say:

Does harpersbakery.com renew by itself? When, and what does it cost?

What happens next

You see the expiration date and the price. If there's no payment method on file, you get a link to add one.

Leave Spaicely

You say:

I want to move harpersbakery.com to another provider. Request the transfer code.

What happens next

The code goes by email to you and the holder. Only the domain's owner can do this, because the code is what moves the domain.

Good to know

  • The price depends on the extension. You'll find all prices on the Find a domain page.
  • With some extensions, such as .nl and .uk, a transfer costs nothing and the expiration date stays the same. With others you pay for a year and the expiration date moves on.
  • A domain only renews after payment. If there's no payment method on file, you get reminders from 60 days before the expiration date.
